Job Interviews

Job interviews can be nerve-wracking, but those who have survived may find success in their chosen career. Some of these successful job candidates may have taken to heart a few tips and tricks to great job interviews, though some guidelines are also hard to follow. If you are painfully shy, you may have to practice on your conversational skills and self-confidence. Overall, however, you can follow some time-tested and candidate-proven tips to successful job interviews.

Preparation for job interviews

You cannot just storm into job interviews armed only with self-confidence and a smile. Job interviews need some preparation on your part. Think of job interviews as oral exams that you have to study for first.

You should research on the company you are applying to. Find adequate information about company goals, company history and the position. You should do the research so during your interview you can show that you are truly interested in the company. Knowing vital details about various company projects and activities. Emphasise qualities that you have that are compatible with what the company is looking for.

What to wear in job interviews

During your research on the company, you may already find out what attire they expect from candidates during job interviews. Job interviews must be treated with respect and formality. Generally you will have to wear a suit or another formal attire. For entry-level job interviews, find out if the company accepts smart casual attires.

Meeting the interviewer in job interviews

Job interviews are about first impressions and proper self-packaging. Though a little nervousness is normal, make sure that you show your confident side. Do not go overboard, or your interviewer may find you too arrogant. Do not be afraid to highlight your strengths as long as you can back them up through your answers to follow-up questions. Reveal your weaknesses also. After all, nobody is perfect. Still, try to show your interviewer that you are in the process of overcoming your weaknesses to become a better person and, possibly, become the most suitable job candidate for the position. Find a common ground with your interviewer, which may work to your advantage without overplaying it.

What to do after job interviews

Job interviews do not end your application process. You still have to follow up a week later or after a prescribed period. Do not be content with having your jobs interviews over with - you have to show your full interest in the position. Updating is a sign of genuine interest and of a self-starting person.
